If you have spent your holiday mostly on the desert coast, this is a great way to see the greener, mountainous interior of Gran Canaria. Start with “golden hour” views in the foothills, followed by sunset on the Pico de las Nieves (can see the top of Teide volcano on Tenerife) and then later checking out the stars with high powered telescopes with excellent guides. Only caveat is that the road to the top of the mountain is extremely windy and narrow so I would not recommend to anyone who gets car sickPosted on Google

Patrick JervisWe had an amazing night to remember with Stargazing Gran Canaria. I had wanted to do some kind of excursion that would take us out of the busy resort and into the spectacular mountains of the island on this holiday. We were picked up on time around 6 pm and headed up into the mountains as the sun began to set. This gave us a unique view of the island and scenery without the usual glare of the sun and it was really stunning to see the views at this time of day. We parked up to watch the sunset from a vantage point high up in the mountains and had a glass of Cava (well I think I had three as there was some going spare….). Then we travelled to the highest point on the island (which was very cold and misty). I knew we were not going to be doing any star gazing there and I was correct! We then moved on to a spot with beautiful clear skies full of stars. Our home galaxy, The Milky Way, could be clearly seen and it was quite a stunning sight. Apparently only 10% of the worlds population have ever seen it with their own eyes. Then the brilliant guides set up several telescopes to let us all see many amazing celestial delights. We saw The Ring Nebula, globular clusters, super red giants, binary stars and my personal favourite the beautiful planet Saturn. You could clearly see the planets famous rings and also several of its own moons. The trip was really great value for money we arrived back at our hotel drop off point around 10.30 pm. We'll definitely go on one of these trips again and hopefully catch some other planets. The guides were very friendly and very knowledgeable and clearly enjoy their work. We went up into the mountains in a people carrier with two other couples – so not a big group and we met up with another group of the same size, so there was plenty of time for everyone to use the telescopes on the chosen targets.Posted on Getyourguide

We watched the sunset at Pico de las Nieves, above the clouds and it was hands down the most beautiful sunset I’ve ever seen. The view was breathtaking and something I’ll never forget. Our guide, Diego, was fantastic. He was so knowledgeable and passionate about astronomy, and he explained the constellations in such an interesting way, sharing fascinating facts, stories and history behind them. You could really tell he loves what he does, and that made the whole experience even more special. Another lovely touch was the free complimentary photo of us with the stars, which is such a beautiful memory to take home. I couldn’t recommend this experience enough if you’re visiting Gran Canaria. Communication after booking is via WhatsApp until Diego arrived to collect us at our hotel where there was immediately a warm and friendly face and very knowledgeable, his English is very good. There is quite a lot of driving if you are based in the south of the island. It took around an hour to collect all the participants and then another hour to the sunset viewpoint. We were lucky to have a relatively clear night so could see across to Tenerife and Mount Tiede. Diego had some stories of the villages and towns that we passed through, these titbits were light hearted and enjoyable. We had to go to an alternative star gazing location due to some cloud cover that came in, we really enjoyed the experience and the equivalent and Diegos knowledge were professional standard. Przewodnik fajnie przekazywał wiedzę, dzielił się z grupą ciekawostkami na temat tego co widać na niebie, odpowiadał na pytania, Można było obserwować niebo przez teleskopy. Den langsamen Sonnenuntergang von den Bergen oben zu sehen war wunderschön. Besonders die Erfahrung in der Nacht mit dem sehr modernen Teleskop war genial. Diego hat uns so viel über die Sterne erzählt, die wir durch das Teleskop sehen konnten und es war dabei immer lustig, aber auch immer mit sehr viel fundiertem astronomischen Wissen. Eine Tour und Reise durch den Weltraum, die sich unbedingt lohnt. Ich werde jetzt jedenfalls den großen Bären, den Polarstern und viele andere Himmelskörper auch zu Hause am Himmel erkennen. Start with “golden hour” views in the foothills, followed by sunset on the Pico de las Nieves (can see the top of Teide volcano on Tenerife) and then later checking out the stars with high powered telescopes with excellent guides. I had wanted to do some kind of excursion that would take us out of the busy resort and into the spectacular mountains of the island on this holiday. We were picked up on time around 6 pm and headed up into the mountains as the sun began to set. This gave us a unique view of the island and scenery without the usual glare of the sun and it was really stunning to see the views at this time of day. We parked up to watch the sunset from a vantage point high up in the mountains and had a glass of Cava (well I think I had three as there was some going spare….). Then we travelled to the highest point on the island (which was very cold and misty). I knew we were not going to be doing any star gazing there and I was correct! We then moved on to a spot with beautiful clear skies full of stars. Our home galaxy, The Milky Way, could be clearly seen and it was quite a stunning sight. Apparently only 10% of the worlds population have ever seen it with their own eyes. Then the brilliant guides set up several telescopes to let us all see many amazing celestial delights. We saw The Ring Nebula, globular clusters, super red giants, binary stars and my personal favourite the beautiful planet Saturn. You could clearly see the planets famous rings and also several of its own moons. The trip was really great value for money we arrived back at our hotel drop off point around 10.30 pm. We'll definitely go on one of these trips again and hopefully catch some other planets. The guides were very friendly and very knowledgeable and clearly enjoy their work. We took this trip because of Jaime who took us on a tuk-tuk tour last year & explained about Teide's unique position, being able to see 84 out of 88 (if I remember correctly) constellations from both the northern and southern hemispheres in one location. The stargazing was fantastic, we were lucky with perfect viewing conditions on the night. It was still dusk when we arrived at the viewpoint & we were able to watch the stars become visible as darkness fell. Seeing the Milky Way so clearly with the naked eye was a highlight and getting the commemorative photo taken is a nice touch. Do make sure you dress warmly & don't be shy about borrowing the jackets that they provide, it gets very cold! Unfortunately, stargazing turned into star-hunting due to the cloud cover. The guide did his best, but with no stars to see, the group returned in near silence, visibly deflated. Es wurde darauf geschaut am selben Tag, was der beste Ort ist um den Sonnenuntergang zu sehen und danach wurde spontan der Beste Ort ausgesucht um die Sterne zu betrachten, und dass ohne viele Menschen. Der Andrew und Silvia, unsere Guids waren super. Sie haben alles zu den Sternen und Planeten verständlich erklärt. Es war sehr interessant und man kann wirklich etwas mitnehmen. Sie erklären auch wie man am Besten mit dem eigenen Handy Bilder machen kann wo man auch die Sterne wirklich sieht. Zudem ist es auch nicht langweilig und du kannst selbst durchs Teleskop vieles sehen. Außerdem werden noch Fotos von dir mit dem Sternenhimmel gemacht. Start with “golden hour” views in the foothills, followed by sunset on the Pico de las Nieves (can see the top of Teide volcano on Tenerife) and then later checking out the stars with high powered telescopes with excellent guides. I had wanted to do some kind of excursion that would take us out of the busy resort and into the spectacular mountains of the island on this holiday. We were picked up on time around 6 pm and headed up into the mountains as the sun began to set. This gave us a unique view of the island and scenery without the usual glare of the sun and it was really stunning to see the views at this time of day. We parked up to watch the sunset from a vantage point high up in the mountains and had a glass of Cava (well I think I had three as there was some going spare….). Then we travelled to the highest point on the island (which was very cold and misty). I knew we were not going to be doing any star gazing there and I was correct! We then moved on to a spot with beautiful clear skies full of stars. Our home galaxy, The Milky Way, could be clearly seen and it was quite a stunning sight. Apparently only 10% of the worlds population have ever seen it with their own eyes. Then the brilliant guides set up several telescopes to let us all see many amazing celestial delights. We saw The Ring Nebula, globular clusters, super red giants, binary stars and my personal favourite the beautiful planet Saturn. You could clearly see the planets famous rings and also several of its own moons. The trip was really great value for money we arrived back at our hotel drop off point around 10.30 pm. We'll definitely go on one of these trips again and hopefully catch some other planets. The guides were very friendly and very knowledgeable and clearly enjoy their work. We had a clear nightsky and were able to see a lot of constellations and stars with the naked eye ánd through the telescope. But the best thing about the trip was Diego. His knowledge and passion are out of this world (pun intended). I could listen to him for hours. It was a magical evening and I would highly recommend. I might even go back for a second time. Zu Beginn beim Sonnenuntergang waren wir skeptisch ob das heute was wird, da es sehr trüb war. Mit zunehmender Dunkelheit und den Blick nach oben haben sich jedoch mehr und mehr Sterne gezeigt. Als es dann richtig dunkel war, war es einfach nur erstaunlich. So etwas sieht man normal nirgends. Die Milchstraße mit bloßen Auge zu sehen ist noch bemerkenswerter. Auch durch das Teleskop haben wir einige Sterne und Cluster gesehen. Top. Einziger Nachteil ist, dass es keine Sitzgelegenheiten gibt und das nach oben schauen in den Nacken gehen kann.
